Mel is married to Cindy and they have 4 children. Mel planted and pastored Trinity Presbyterian Church in Providence, RI (named the nation’s least Bible-minded city in a 2016 Barna poll) and Christ Presbyterian Church in Reading, PA (named the nation’s poorest city in the 2010 census).
Mel graduated with University Honors from Millersville University of PA, writing his honors thesis on the politics of Jonathan Edwards. Mel was a Carpenter Scholar at Yale Divinity School and graduated magna cum laude. His adviser was Brevard Childs. Mel received his PhD in Hebrew Bible from the Religion Department at Temple University, where he studied with Prof. Mark Leuchter.
He has taught at Temple University, Albright College, Saint Joseph’s University, Rowan University, Eastern University, and Evangelical Seminary.
